Our tips for travelling with Children

Travelling with children can be challenging and the task isn’t an easy one. with children always on the go and in need of constant attention, going on holiday can seem daunting. While you might be looking forward to looking out the window and just enjoying the journey, for your little ones sitting back and enjoying the journey isn’t on their agenda. Cue the 10th “Are we there yet?”.

We’ve put together a list of our best tips on how to keep tantrums at bay and the little ones entertained so you can enjoy a lovely holiday with your family.

Pack plenty of things to do

Providing entertainment is key. With their wild imaginations, it is important to make sure to pack a variety of different toys, books and games to keep them entertained for the whole journey.

If you do run out of physical toys to keep them entertained, then why not take things old school and enjoy some traditional games such as iSpy or the memory game. If you’re travelling with younger children then instead of being letter-based iSpy, play it with colours instead, for example, “I spy with my little eye something that’s blue”.

If you are wanting some quiet time, then it can be handy to have a phone or tablet to hand. Download your children’s favourite programmes or age-appropriate games onto the tablet or phone to keep them entertained while you get some ‘me’ time.

Avoid travelling by plane

The thought of travelling the world with your little ones can be an exciting thought, but if you’ve got toddlers or very young children, then long flights, jetlag, airplane pressure and layovers can be difficult for them to handle and can be tricky for you, especially if you have to strap your toddler to your lap.

Holidaying in the UK has many benefits, especially with the current circumstances. A staycation can be perfect for you and your family. When it comes to travelling, they can have their own seat, you have control over how regularly you stop for breaks and could even see exciting things on the way. Also, if you are travelling with family then why not hire a minibus? That way you can all travel together which also means more people to entertain your children.

Don’t forget the snacks!

Snacks are a travel essential! Having hungry children is not fun for anyone and it can turn a happy journey miserable in seconds, so making sure to have snacks to hand can help to keep those grouchy moods at bay.

Journeys can often be unpredictable, no matter how much you plan there may be unexpected traffic or a wrong turn that extends your journey which can mean the time between meals gets disrupted, which is why having snacks is crucial.
