How to plan (and enjoy!) a day out at The Grand National

8th April 2022

Thinking of planning a day out at Aintree? We know a thing or two about planning a smooth-running day at the races. Whether you’re heading there with your family, friends or maybe even on a work outing we’ll help plan a day from start to finish.

Where should I sit?

Do you want to be close to the Winning Post as the victorious horse and jockey cross the line? Or would you rather have easy access to the Red Rum Lawn and take in the entertainment? Choices, choices!

Tickets for the Grand National day itself are likely to sell out, so you might be limited on choice. Check out their website for in-depth details of each stand, our favourites are the Queen Mother Seats or Lord Daresbury Roof (as they’re right next to the winner’s bar and parade ring!)

What to wear?

Although there is no official dress code, many people prefer smart clothes as part of the race day experience. The Grand National’s website describes the event as a ‘spectacle of colour’ for all three days of the festival, with many using their trip as an opportunity to showcase their favourite outfits. Hats are optional but are frequently worn. Sports clothes and fancy dress are not permitted for the Grand National.

While you may choose to dress a little bit more casual, if you’re attending Ladies Day, dressing up gives you the opportunity to walk away with the grand prize – including £5,000 in cash, a luxury spa break and £1,000 donation to your chosen charity (and much more!) Well worth making a bit of effort.

What time should I arrive?

Race days, especially at The Grand National, get busy! We recommend arriving with plenty of time before the first race, so you have time to grab a drink, find your stand and where to place a bet.

Organising transport

If you’re heading there in a big group or plan on having a drink or two, hiring a coach or minibus is a great option. You won’t have to worry about where to park or who’s the designated driver, you’ll get picked up and dropped off for a fun day at the races.

At Coach Hire Comparison, we have been organising coach trips to the Grand National with reliable minibus suppliers for years. So, if you’re looking for transport for the day, we will help you find the best quote that suits all your needs and requirements.
